Diagnostic dental services accompany initial and recall preventative visits. Digital x-rays are taken in the lowest possible setting to evaluate hard tooth structure and bone health. These areas are not visible during a visual exam. Hidden areas of decay between teeth, infections, impacted teeth, and changes or loss of bone can be detected with use of diagnostic equipment. Our digital x-ray machines are registered and evaluated by physicists as required by the state of NJ. 

Professionally cleaning your teeth or providing dental prophylaxis, removes buildup on your teeth. Recommendations concerning the effectiveness of your daily care routine and the health of your teeth and oral tissue are being clinically evaluated with this preventative service.  We need to learn about your overall health and medications. 

If you have not had regular dental cleanings, additional cleanings may be required. The daily film on your teeth called plaque can harden into tartar above and below your gums. This increases the bacteria in your mouth. Brushing alone will not remove this and if long term can cause tooth loss. Bleeding gums are a concern and a warning sign for gingivitis or periodontitis.  Dental offices have special tools designed for cleaning teeth. Deep cleaning known as scaling and root planing may be recommended. This is done with local anesthesia. We want to stop the progression of gum disease and prevent periodontal disease. When necessary, the care of a periodontal specialist may be recommended.
